What is Speech Therapy?
- Assesses speech sound production, receptive and expressive language, non-verbal communication, feeding skills, oral motor development and social/pragmatic language skills.
- Designs interventions to assist children in communication and feeding.
What is Occupational Therapy?
- Assesses sensory processing, visual-motor, visual perceptual, gross motor, fine motor, self-care and social skills.
- Designs interventions to assist children in performing daily life activities or “occupations.”
Therapy services typically include:
1) an evaluation
2) treatment plan
3) a home program
4) collaboration with other disciplines
Therapy services can take place:
1) In the clinic
2) In the home
3) In the community
Therapy service delivery can be:
1) Individual Therapy: 1:1 with child, therapist and family
2) Co-treatment: Combination of speech and occupational therapy for a portion or all of the session. Includes, child, therapists, and family.
3) Group Therapy: Typically includes 4-6 children working on similar developmental milestones. May include a therapist and assistant.

Groups:
Connections (ages 3-5): A preschool class where students will work in a smaller sized class with preschool teachers, a speech-language pathologist (1 hour/week), and an occupational therapist (1 hour/week) to develop communication skills, motor skills, self-help skills and social skills. Located at Kids Connection Preschool on Wednesdays from 9:15-11:45 OR 12:30-3:00. Refer to www.kidsconnection.info for more information.
